German Shepherd

The German Shepherd was developed by Captain Max Von Stephanitz in 1899. His Germand Shepherd named Horand Von Grfrath, is the genetic bases for the breed today. The German Shepherd was originally used as a sheep herding dog, but through the years he has been used for protection, guide dogs, tracking, search and rescue, Schutzhund, and military and police work, and is still used in it's native country as a sheep herding dog. German Shepherd are the third most popular breed in the U.S.
