History

Johnathon Plott and his brother brought hounds from Germany to the U.S. in the 1700's to the mountains of North Carolina, and began breeding these hounds until they got the desired breed of dog that was needed for wild boar and bear hunts. The breed that was developed was a very quick and agile dog with a bugle call that was later dubbed the Plott Boar Hound by his neighbors, and was also called the best hunting dog of all hounds. The Plott Hound is a favorite among big game hunters, because of their remarkable tracking ability and tenatiousness, and fearlessness to track, corner and hold a bear or wildboar until their handler arrived. The Plott Hound made it's first appearance at the 2008 Westminster dog show.
